HANNAH'S BLOG

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

For the research portion of this project, I gathered references of classic as well as futuristic installations. Our group was inspired by the multi-colored mosaic pillars found in Barcelona, Spain. We came up with the concept of pillars that would celebrate the various countries and cultures found on the campus of Texas A&M.

ACADEMIC BUILDING REFERENCES

Once we decided on the academic building, I went and took photos of the iconic room at various angles and focal lengths. I made sure to capture the details of the room from the first to the fourth floor. I also took the image that is composited into the final result.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

The hardest task in the project for me was coming up with a plan to uv-unwrap all of the cubes in the most efficient manner and in a way that would simplify the texture applying process. It was overall successful, but I did run into an issue where the patterns were not in the right position. This was resolved with a simple flipping of the UVs for a portion of the faces in the UV editor.

SURFACING & RENDERING

For this project, I surfaced the benches and the liberty bell. I created 15 countries' designs and applied all countries into the scene. With the helpful assistance of Jackson Spencer, we managed to optimize the scene that had slowed down due to the hefty animation. Using a caching system for the geometry of the columns, we further optimized the scene for rendering.
